October 8th I took part in a podcast recording with Birmingham’s very own Beatfreaks!
Newstyle Radio’s Tia Cham hosted & directed the question on ‘What Has Changed For Black Women In Music?’.
“We welcome Tia Cham, radio presenter and episode host, who is in conversation with conscious rapper Lady Sanity. The pair are introduced by season host, and Creative Practitioner at Free Radical, Bethany Slinn. The topic leads on from Pass the Mic, a Beatfreeks, BBC music day and BBC Asian Network produced event, which saw 24 female musicians take over the Birmingham - Wolverhampton Tram. It is draws on the themes of the day along with Black History Month. Backlash Against the Bland: a brand new series of podcasts brought to you by Free Radical, a part of the Beatfreeks Collective - a community of young people, spoken word poets, facilitators, researchers and artists daring people to use creativity for good.
This series of podcasts brings the core of this community together with relevant experts (think criminology academics to aerial performers) to probe the awkward questions that, as far we can make out, don’t have any easy answers.”
